The Thousand Islands Central School District is located in Northern New York. The District runs along the first thirty-six miles of the mighty St. Lawrence River from the Tibbetts Point Lighthouse on Lake Ontario to the Thousand Islands International Bridge, Interstate 81’s gateway to Canada, and occupies approximately 190 square miles. Watertown and Syracuse are within 20 minutes, and 90 minutes respectively, and Kingston, Ontario is within 60 minutes.

We have approximately 7,000 year round residents in the area, which include the villages of Cape Vincent and Clayton, the hamlets of Depauville, Fishers Landing, Rosiere, Clayton Center, St. Lawrence, and the connecting countryside. Our summer population increases many fold, as friends come from all over New York, the northeast, and Canada to live in and visit this beautiful area.

For more than a century, the Thousand Islands Region has been an enchanting summer vacation destination and remains the choice of many for family fun. In addition to swimming and boating activities, the St. Lawrence River boasts some of the best bass, pike, and muskie fishing in the world. The economy of the area is based on this tourism, including boat tours of the area; dairy and beef cattle farming, and small industries. Visitors can have their needs met in the District with the many excellent marinas, motels, restaurants, cottage colonies, golf courses, and state parks.

The Thousand Islands Central School District offers a world-class education to 1,050 students K-12. Elementary schools in the villages of Cape Vincent and Clayton serve around 450 students in Grades K-5. Halfway between these two villages is the Sand Bay Campus which houses the 6-8 Middle School and 9-12 High School, each with its own faculty and programs. A focused STEM School, 75% of T.I.’s graduates further their education through the support of several enriched course offerings: Advance Placement (Biology, Chemistry, English, History, Mathematics, and Physics), 5 Pre-engineering courses sponsored by PLTW, Syracuse University Project Advance English and Biology, and JCC EDGE courses in both Spanish and French, as well as in Sociology, Psychology and Business through the Distance Learning Lab. Also, several vocational programs are made available to students at the Bohlen Technical Center in Watertown.

All classrooms and offices are wireless Wi-Fi ready. A fiber optic line carries voice, video, and data to and from the three campuses, with each District classroom housing a cluster of computers. Throughout the District there are several stationary and portable computer laboratories for students and staff to use in and out of the classroom. Formal instruction in technology begins in Kindergarten and continues as a high priority in the secondary level. Also, T.I. has installed and utilizes current technology and has implemented the use of SMART Boards in the majority of classrooms throughout the district. Finally, less than 2% of Thousand Islands students with special education needs receive services outside the District, which speaks volumes to the District’s commitment to a very successful full inclusion model.

Students actively participate in a broad spectrum of student activities, which include musical and drama groups, publishing, student government, academic competitions, international travel, and interscholastic sports.

A professional staff of 115 includes the Superintendent of Schools, Business Manager, Elementary Principals, and Principal in both the Middle School and High School. Along with a highly trained and committed professional teaching staff, the District also employs several non-teaching staff to provide quality transportation, cafeteria services, maintenance, custodial, and clerical services that all support students and student programs.
